History and Definition of Skateboarding

Skateboarding is the act of riding on and performing tricks with a skateboard. A person who skateboards is referred to as a skateboarder or skater.

Skateboarding is a recreational activity, a job, or a method of transportation. Skateboarding has been shaped and influenced by many skateboarders throughout the years. A 2002 report by American Sports Data found that there were 18.5 million skateboarders in the world. Eighty-five percent of skateboarders polled who had used a board in the last year were under the age of 18, and 74 percent were male.

Skateboarding is relatively modern. A key skateboarding trick, the ollie, was only developed in the late 1970s. This ollie was used only on vertical ramps on flat ground. A decade later, freestyle skateboarder Rodney Mullen invented the kickflip.

Tricks: Nollie Lipslide

1. You want to learn how to nollie first. 2. Ride up to the rail at a comfortable speed. 3. Ride up parallel to the rail with your feet in nollie position. 4. Pop a nollie, turn your board 90 degrees with your shoulders over your board. At the same time you should center your weight over your board. 5. When you reach the end of the rail turn your shoulders so you can ride away regular or to fakie.

Tony Hawk has created a new image for skateboarding. Today, Tony Hawk is the worlds best professional skateboarder. He was born on May 12, 1968 in San Diego, California. Tony began his skateboarding journey when he was just 9 years old after his brother gave him a blue fiberglass banana board. By the time Tony was 12 years old he was already sponsored by Dogtown Skateboards, by 14 he was pro, and by 16 years old, Tony Hawk was the best skateboarder in the world.

Skate is the newest skateboarding video game released on Septermeber 24, 2007. In the game you are a skater and you have to complete several different missions and accomplish different tasks. Game is very similar to popular series GTA. In the game you get to explore city and do many different mission. Game is very fun and I recommend it to everyone.

This video shows basic skateboarding tricks.Several different types of tricks like: flip tricks, slide and grinds, lip tricks, aerials, freestyle tricks etc. Some of the basic skateboarding tricks a beginner should learn are: ollie, 50-50 grind, manual, kickflip and and kickturn.
